THE VERDICT OF THE FICC JURY

Members of the jury:

Christl Grunwald-Merz,
Tomasz Kurus,
Réka Szalkai

on November 24th 2011 awarded the following films:

Children of the Sea (Annabele Verbeke, Belgium 2010); FICC Award

The film is about the obedience of children. How this obedience is achieved we see in several scenes, especially in one, where they are dressed as marines. Is this an issue in Belgium only? Or will it appear in other civilized nations as well?

Klątwa/The Curse (Tomasz Śliwiński, Poland 2011); Distinction

We chose the film because of its deeply humane content. Without any unnecessary scenes or sequences, director created sad but beautiful poem without any dialogue. After the projection one could feel deeply grateful for the fact of healthy born children.

Urodziny/Birthday (Maciej Sobieszczański, Poland 2011)
; Distinction

It is a contemporary story set in every day life in modern Poland. Although, it also applies to other postcommunist countries as well. It is funny, enjoyable experience, which leads to a lot of existential questions. The great acting make us believe in every bit of perfectly written dialogues.
